Problem Overview
People searching this question usually want a definitive list. Something that says: if you have X, do not do this.
That list exists in a lot of places online, written by people who have never met you and are not qualified to write it. Publishing a set of clinical contraindications would be both irresponsible and useless, because the two things that actually determine suitability are your specific physical health situation, which belongs to your doctor, and where you are emotionally right now, which belongs in a conversation with your facilitator.
What follows is an honest account of how that decision is genuinely made.
For Anything Physical, Ask a Doctor
This is a physical practice. You stand barefoot on a board of upright nails and hold your own body weight while breathing deeply.
If you have any health condition, any concern about your feet, circulation, balance, skin, or anything else physical, or if you are pregnant, or if you are unsure for any reason at all, speak to your doctor first. That is not a formality and it is not us avoiding the question. A qualified medical professional who knows your history is the only appropriate person to make that call, and no facilitator, however experienced, is a substitute for one.
If your doctor says no, that is the answer. If your doctor says yes, the conversation moves on to the second part.
Where You Are Right Now Matters as Much as Anything Physical
This part is less often discussed and just as important.
The Sadhu board is designed to bring you into direct contact with sensation, fear and resistance. That is the point of it. For many people, at the right moment, that is exactly what they need and it opens something.
At a different moment, for the same person, it is not the right choice. If you are in the middle of something acute, if you have almost no capacity available, if you are exhausted in a way rest is not touching, meeting intensity head-on may not be what serves you. Something gentler often does more.
This is not a judgement about whether you are strong enough. It is a question of timing, and timing is a real variable.
Tell Julia Before You Book
Here is the practical instruction, and it is the most important thing on this page.
If you are dealing with something difficult right now, tell Julia about it before booking.
Her facilitation is trauma-informed and there is no forced catharsis at any point, but an honest conversation first makes sure this is the right support for you at this moment. That conversation is not a screening test you can fail. It is how the right format gets chosen, or how you get told honestly that now might not be the time.
You do not need to explain everything, or share more than you want to. A sentence is enough to start.
Expert Insight: What Trauma-Informed Actually Means Here
The phrase gets used loosely, so here is what it means in practice.
- No forced catharsis. Nobody is trying to produce a breakdown or a dramatic release. Those are not evidence that the session worked.
- No pushing past a boundary. Not for your own good, not because you said you wanted a challenge, not at all.
- You control the pace. The whole way through. On the board, you control how long you stand and when you step off, always.
- Preparation before intensity. Grounding and breathwork come before you step on anything, not after.
- Integration afterwards. The session ends with grounding and sound healing integration, not the moment you step off.
A facilitator willing to tell you that a session is not right for you today is demonstrating the same principle. Being told no, or not yet, is the system working.
This Is Not Therapy
Worth stating plainly, because it affects who this is for.
This is somatic and sound-based facilitation. It is not therapy, it does not treat or cure any condition, and it makes no medical claims. It works alongside therapy rather than replacing it, and many clients do both.
If you are currently working with a therapist or another health professional, mentioning that you are considering this work is a reasonable step, and many people do.
If the Board Is Not Right, Something Else May Be
Deciding against a Sadhu board session does not mean body-based work is closed to you. It often means a different door is the better one.
Julia Klykova works across four modalities, sound healing, somatic work, Sadhu board and breathwork, where most practitioners offer one. That range is exactly why she can be honest about the board without leaving you with nothing.
- Private Sound Healing. From $120 USD, 75 to 90 minutes. You lie down fully clothed and receive. Suited to nervous system reset, burnout and chronic fatigue, emotional overwhelm, insomnia and difficulty relaxing.
- Private Somatic Session. From $120 USD, 90 minutes. Actively guided into the body and through what is stuck, built around your emotional state and intention.
- Open group sound baths. Held in studios across Mexico City through the month. A lower price point and no commitment, which makes it an easy way to experience this work first.
Why Julia Klykova Is the Right Person to Ask
Julia is a certified transformational facilitator, sound therapist and Sadhu board practitioner with over 15 years of practice in yoga, breathwork, somatic and embodiment work, and more than 100 clients guided. All sessions are in person within Mexico City, either at your home with every instrument brought to you, or at the studio in the city centre. Available in English, Spanish and Russian.
"Julia's sessions are truly healing. She has a warm, caring energy that immediately makes you feel relaxed and at home. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to take an incredible journey towards the depth of their inner world." Sound therapy
Have the Conversation First
The right answer to whether you should do this is not on a webpage. It comes from your doctor for anything physical, and from an honest conversation with your facilitator for everything else.
Message Julia on WhatsApp at +52 55 3971 9870 or email july.picture@gmail.com. Tell her what is bringing you here and mention anything difficult you are dealing with before you book. If a Sadhu board session is not the right support for you right now, she will say so, and there is another way in.
