How Do You Prepare for Your First Sadhu Board Session?

Wear something comfortable, eat lightly, arrive without a performance to deliver. The rest is handled for you. Here is what preparation actually looks like for a first guided session in Mexico City.

Problem Overview

Most people booking a first Sadhu board session prepare for the wrong thing. They start rehearsing. How long should I be able to stand? What if I step off too soon? What if I am the person who cannot do it?

That is preparation for a test, and this is not a test. Nobody is timing you, there is no benchmark to hit, and stepping off is not failing. Preparing as though there is a score to beat is the single most common way people make a first session harder than it needs to be.

The practical preparation is genuinely small. The useful preparation is about the expectation you walk in carrying.

What to Wear

Something comfortable that lets you move and breathe.

  • Loose or stretchy clothing you can stand and breathe deeply in. Avoid anything tight at the waist or ribs.
  • Layers. Bodies often run warm during the practice and cool afterwards during integration.
  • Bare feet on the board, so nothing complicated. Whatever you arrive in comes off.
  • Nothing that needs adjusting or holding in place. You want your attention on your breath, not your waistband.

If you have no idea what qualifies, the rule is simple. If you would be happy lying on the floor in it for twenty minutes, it works.

What to Eat

Eat lightly, and not immediately beforehand.

  • A light meal two to three hours before is a good general shape. Arriving very full makes deep breathing uncomfortable.
  • Do not arrive on an empty stomach either. Being under-fuelled makes it harder to stay present.
  • Drink water through the day. Hydration helps more than any last-minute preparation.
  • Go easy on caffeine that day if you can. A wired system takes longer to settle in the preparation phase.

None of this is a rule you can break and ruin the session. It is just what makes the first part easier.

What to Bring

Nothing.

Sessions are in person within Mexico City, either at your home or at the studio in the city centre. Julia brings every instrument and the full setup. At the studio, everything is provided. At home, she carries the bowls, chimes and equipment to you, which also means you release in a place your body already trusts and do not have to travel afterwards.

You bring nothing but yourself.

What Actually Happens

Knowing the shape of the session removes most of the anxiety, so here it is.

The Sadhu Board Experience runs 90 to 120 minutes and starts from $150 USD. Standing on the board is one part of it, and not the longest part.

  1. Intention setting and emotional inquiry. A conversation first. What is bringing you here, what you would like to meet.
  2. Grounding preparation and breathwork. You are prepared thoroughly before you step on anything.
  3. Nervous system regulation. Getting your system settled rather than braced.
  4. Fully guided nail standing. Julia guides every step, breath by breath and sensation by sensation. You are not left to get through it alone.
  5. Facilitation through resistance. When something surfaces, it is worked with in the moment, not afterwards.
  6. Sound healing integration. Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, Koshi chimes and therapeutic percussion, so you come back down slowly rather than being dropped.

You control how long you stand and when you step off. Always.

Expert Insight: How to Arrive

The most useful preparation is mental, and it is short.

Arrive without a fixed expectation of performance. You are not there to prove endurance. Standing for a long time is not the goal, and neither is having a dramatic release. Some people cry, some go quiet, some feel intensely clear, some feel very little on the day and more the next. All of that is normal.

Do not decide in advance what should happen. The people who get the most out of a first session are the ones who show up curious rather than committed to a specific outcome.

Give yourself space afterwards. Do not schedule a meeting for ten minutes after. Leave the evening loose if you can.

Say the honest thing at intake. If you are nervous, say you are nervous. That is useful information, not a problem to hide.

Tell Julia What Is Going On Before You Book

This is the one preparation step that matters more than any of the practical ones.

If you are dealing with something difficult right now, mention it before booking. Julia's facilitation is trauma-informed, with no forced catharsis at any point and no pushing anyone past a boundary, but an honest conversation first makes sure this is the right support for you at this moment. For any physical health concern, check with your doctor before booking. This work is somatic and sound-based facilitation, not therapy, and it works alongside therapy rather than replacing it.

Julia also confirms all details with you personally before anything is final: format, place, time and price. Nothing is left for you to guess at.

Why Julia Klykova Is the Right First Session

A first Sadhu board experience depends almost entirely on who is holding the room.

Julia Klykova is a certified transformational facilitator, sound therapist and Sadhu board practitioner with over 15 years of practice in yoga, breathwork, somatic and embodiment work, and more than 100 clients guided. She works across four modalities, sound healing, somatic work, Sadhu board and breathwork, where most practitioners offer one. Nothing is a template. She reads what is happening in your body and builds the session in real time.

It is intense, and it is not damaging. You are prepared thoroughly with breathwork and grounding before you step on, and guided through every second of it.

"I was really nervous at first, but the way Julia guided us step by step made it all feel possible. Her calm presence and the sound helped me go deeper into the experience than I ever expected." Sound healing and Sadhu board session

Sessions run in English, Spanish and Russian.
