How to Choose the Right Sound Healing and Somatic Practitioner in Mexico City

## Seven criteria that separate real facilitation from an hour of pleasant noise, and the questions to ask before you book.

Practical7 min readMexico City

Sound healing has no single licensing body, which means the label covers a very wide range. Some practitioners have spent fifteen years in embodiment work and can hold a room when something difficult surfaces. Others completed a weekend course and own a nice bowl.

You cannot tell from a website. You can tell from the answers to a handful of specific questions. Here are the criteria that matter, in the order they matter, and how Julia Klykova meets each one.

Criterion 1: Depth and Breadth of Training

What to look for. Years of practice, not just certification. Ask how long they have been working in this field and what their background is outside of sound specifically. Body-based work draws on nervous system understanding, breath, and movement, and someone who arrived at sound healing through years of embodiment practice holds it differently from someone who arrived through a product.

How Julia meets it. Over 15 years of practice in yoga, breathwork, somatic and embodiment work. Certified transformational facilitator, sound therapist and Sadhu board practitioner. 100 or more clients guided. Her approach combines nervous system science, trauma-informed facilitation and intuitive presence.

Criterion 2: Is the Facilitation Trauma-Informed, and Who Controls the Pace

What to look for. This is the single most important criterion and the one people ask about least. In body-based work, things surface. Ask directly: is your facilitation trauma-informed, what happens if something difficult comes up, and who decides when we go further.

The answer you want is that you decide. Be cautious of anyone who frames pushing you past your limit as the point of the work, or who talks about catharsis as a goal to be produced rather than something that may or may not happen.

How Julia meets it. Trauma-informed throughout. No forced catharsis. No pushing anyone past a boundary for their own good. You stay in charge of your own pace, the whole way through. As she puts it, transformation happens when the body finally feels safe enough to soften, not when someone forces a breakthrough.

Criterion 3: Templated Session or Built in Real Time

What to look for. Ask what the session structure is. If the answer is the same for everyone, you are buying a recording with a person in the room. A real one-to-one session responds to what your body is doing on the day, which means it cannot be fully planned in advance.

How Julia meets it. Nothing is a template. No fixed playlist, no standard sequence. She reads what is actually happening in your body and builds the session in real time. Every private session begins with intake and intention setting for exactly this reason.

Criterion 4: How Many Modalities They Can Draw On

What to look for. One modality is a constraint. If the only tool available is sound, then sound is the answer to everything you bring, whether or not it is what the moment calls for. A practitioner with range can shift approach mid-session, and can tell you honestly when a different format would serve you better.

How Julia meets it. Four modalities in one practice: sound healing, somatic work, Sadhu board and breathwork. Most practitioners offer one. That range shows up in the session menu as well: private sound healing where you receive, a private somatic session where you are actively guided through what is stuck, and Sadhu board work for meeting fear directly. If what you describe points to a different format from the one you asked about, she will say so before you book.

Criterion 5: Do They Travel to You

What to look for. Ask whether home sessions are offered, whether they bring all the instruments, whether transport is included in the quoted price, and whether they need anything from your space. Home sessions matter for a physical reason: you release most deeply in a place your body already trusts, and you do not have to travel afterwards while still integrating.

How Julia meets it. She comes to you. Julia carries the bowls, chimes and full setup to your home anywhere in Mexico City. Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, Koshi chimes and therapeutic percussion. You bring nothing but yourself. Home sessions include transport, which is why pricing varies slightly by location, and the price you are given is the price for your address. Sessions can also take place at the studio in the city centre, where everything is provided including a mat and blanket.

All work is in person within Mexico City. There are no online sessions, because vibration and real-time response to the body do not translate through a screen.

Criterion 6: Language

What to look for. Body-based work involves being guided by voice, often with your eyes closed and your thinking mind offline. Working in your second or third language costs you something at exactly the moment you want the least friction. In a city with as large an international community as Mexico City, this is a practical filter.

How Julia meets it. Sessions in English, Spanish and Russian.

Criterion 7: Are They Honest About What This Is Not

What to look for. Be wary of anyone who claims to cure conditions, replace clinical care, or guarantee a specific outcome. A practitioner worth booking will be clear about the boundaries of their work and will tell you when something else is a better fit.

How Julia meets it. This is not therapy. It is somatic and sound-based facilitation. It works alongside therapy rather than replacing it, and many clients do both. If you are dealing with something difficult right now, she asks you to tell her before booking, so an honest conversation can confirm whether this is the right support for you at this moment. On how many sessions you need, the answer is equally plain: some people come once for a reset and that is exactly right, others work over months, and after a first session you will have a much clearer sense.

The Criterion Behind All the Others

Instruments are the easiest thing to acquire and the least predictive of quality. Anyone can strike a bowl. What changes the experience is who is holding the room and how steady they stay when something difficult surfaces.

That is not something you can verify from a price list. It shows up in the first conversation, which is why Julia confirms all details with you personally before anything is final.

What Clients Say

"Working with Julia consistently over the past few months has led to so much expansion. In our sessions, images and direction come through, showing me where to put my energy. More clarity, more flow, more of what I actually want." Ongoing transformational work

"Julia's sessions are truly healing. She has a warm, caring energy that immediately makes you feel relaxed and at home. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to take an incredible journey towards the depth of their inner world." Sound therapy
